MEET Louisa Sernay from Gulf and West Papua, who is an Health Extension officer by Profession.

Louisa now works with ExxonMobil PNG Limited having previously worked with International SOS based at the LNGP site clinic.

She currently works as an Occupational Health Coordinator as well as the Technical Operations Support for ExxonMobil PNG’s Medicine and Occupational Health (MOH) Department.

“I support activities across all our five sites including Mobil Terminals. Our main goal is health care of employees and the whole workforce at our sites in the country,” Louisa said.

Ensuring proper health screening procedures for pre-employment medicals, conducting clinic assessments, assisting MOH doctors with management of occupational health issues, and coordination of occupational health programs according to global requirements and MOH evaluations are some of the things Louisa does.

Asked about her typical day: “Day tasks tend to vary, it gets busy beginning and ends of the years, with planning medicals for new recruitments for the company. And then it’s mainly planning, coordination and implementation of activities as planned.

Commenting on the best part of her job, Louisa said: “Assisting staff in acheiving their health goals. I love taking on challenges as I learn a lot and always find new strategies to do things better.

“Coordinating and culture programs is a challenging role. It’s not easy to implement as wellbeing program and expect everyone to fully participate. Each site has its own program and challenges; thus, it takes determination, perseverance, and innovation to work with the site team to deliver events that everyone can take part and benefit.”

This is Louisa’s 5th year as an employee and six and a half years in her position.”
