National Airports Corporation managing director Rex Kiponge said he was working closely with the Safety Authority to ensure the final assessment of the runway was completed.
Kiponge said the runway was already completed but work on the new terminal was still ongoing, The National newspaper reported.
"This should provide relief to the travelling public who fly into Kagamuga Airport at Mount Hagen," he said.
"The terminal building is not complete, but we have completed the runway so we will use the runway. We will build a temporary terminal just to facilitate the passengers," Kiponge said.
