Miss Goroka hopefuls strut their stuff

The 67th Goroka Show will feature some of the Eastern Highlands beauties who have come through many local pageants to vie for Miss PNG spot.

The Goroka Show Committee has confirmed the incorporation of this exhibition at the Miss Goroka Show Meet and Greet night at the Goroka Aero Club on Sept 1.

Nineteen entrants stepped up to show a sneak preview of what they have in store for show goers at the 67th Goroka Show and more in the beauty contest for Miss PNG that leads to contest for Miss Pacific.

The 19 entrants are those who had come through many contests earlier to represent Eastern Highlands in the beauty contest for Miss PNG.

The Goroka Show Committee chairlady Keryn Hargreaves said the Miss Goroka Show Meet and Greet September was going to be part of the show on September 16 and 17, to be preceded by Pikinini Cultural Show on September 15.

According to her, Eastern Highlands has not been participating in the beauty contest for Miss PNG decades ago.

“We are grateful to be part of the team that tries to revive our local beauty contests to represent Eastern Highlands for the Miss PNG contest,” Ms Hargreaves said.

“The show provides a pathway for our entrants to the life outside of their localities.”

They acknowledged the corporate bodies and individuals who made the event successful.

These include Niugini Holdings, Westpac Bank, Swire Shipping, Istana, Congo Coffee, PNG Coffee Exports, Post-Courier and others.

The chairlady gave the assurance of this at the presentation of the K100,000 from the Eastern Highlands Governor Simon Sia on behalf of the provincial government last week.
