New Ireland Nite was Lit!

By Philemon Kassman

The New Ireland Students Association of UPNG hosted a successful fundraiser at The Cosmopolitan Club on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

The night was packed with music eclectics from different ethnicities that turned up to have a great night out with family and friends.

The three resident DJs; DJ Kainzy, DJ Kross Eyed and DJ Covid really did their jobs well, hyping the partygoers.

It was DJ Covid who brought the New Ireland vibes and got everyone vibing to all the hit NIPS songs until the Jnr Tasins band members took the stage to start their set. DJ Covid played songs from Texas Allen, Jnr Tasins and Twin Hox.

The main attractions for the night were the Jnr Tasins and Tonton Malele, the singing sensation from Lihir Island.

Jnr Tasins started their set by belting out their hits, sending the audience back to the early 2000s.

As soon as they finished performing ‘Meri Namatanai’, the lead singer introduced Tonton Malele, and the crowd just went crazy! They started chanting, “Tonton, Tonton, Tonton!!”
Tonton Malele makes his way on stage, accompanied by his music counterpart Nene Morus and backup vocalist Renee, and begins their set list with a medley of ‘Simel Purpur’ and ‘East Side’.

A guest appearance by Kronos was also in the mix as he featured Tonton and Nene performing ‘Maris Noh Katigu’ with the crowd calling for more as the night drew to a close.

The Cosmopolitan was packed to the rim by the time the night was over. The lucky folks who attended the night were satisfied to have watched their favorite artists perform and made tracks back home!

Ps. HAPPY BELATED NEW IRELAND DAY to all you Nilpis out there!
