PNG and the Republic of France have established a landmark cooperation in Forest Management, Conservation, and Climate Change during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister of PNG, James Marape, and the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron, in Port Moresby on Friday, July 28, 2023.

“…and after this I am travelling to France as a guest of the France government and the French President (Emmanuel Macron) reciprocating the visit of the French President Emmanuel Macron had to us, I am reciprocating that visit as most of you know,” Mr Marape said.

“We propped France to be a lead advocate for our forest nations, PNG is a forest nation and he has invited myself to be a special guest.

“Government to government relationships we hope our State-Owned Enterprises, our business exchanges constantly grow,” he said.

“We have one of French leading companies in Total Energies being the lead developer of Papua LNG, also at government level we have influence in private sector transactions but it augurs well from government to government relationships, companies from both countries continue to flourish in their business opportunities.

“Total is a French company, Total is leading in Papua LNG, we expect FID (Final Investment Decision) to be staged in the first quarter next year and exchange between the President and myself at government to government consolidates business to business interest of both countries.

“Our own State-owned Enterprises are in the process of completing transaction in acquiring new fleet of air busses for Air Niugini and so those conversations happen from leaders-to-leaders level with establishing rapour, not just the head of government but importantly between our people, the Independent State of PNG and the Republic of France,” Mr Marape said.
