Sir Julius birthday celebrated

People’s Progress Party president Sumlin Mesulam was among those who celebrated and wished the last man standing, Sir Julius Chan, a happy birthday as he turned 84 years old on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

Sir Julius, upon his return from Tanga for the opening of the Malendok Road, was received with a surprise party at his home in Huris.

Mr Mesulam, acting provincial administrator Moses Taram, NIPA economic sector CEO Edward Lasisi , Lovongai LLG president Andrew Minkiong, NIPA director transport and infrastructure Toraliu Salatiel, New Ireland Rugby League chairman Benjamin Wakip, New Ireland Rugby Union chairman Charlie Melachon, Marist College Alumni NIP Chapter chairman Sylvester Bariu, former director community development Dennis Kosam, chiefs from Huris including Sir J’s son and former Namatanai MP Byron Chan on behalf of his siblings, performed a customary appreciation ceremony to mark his 84th birthday.

Mr Mesulam said: “As we mark this day, we acknowledge the remarkable things you have done for the party, province and country.

Your leadership, spanning over 50 years in politics shows the essence of true leadership.”

Celebrations continued into the evening with customary appreciations the New Ireland way with feasting of nine (9) roasted pigs and traditional mumu kaikai.

Another surprise gathering with the Matalai community extended the birthday celebrations.

Governor Sir J has thanked everyone for the birthday wishes and gifts on his 84th birthday.
