Teachers yet to receive entitlements asked to leave

FIVE teachers including a secondary school principal have been ordered by the NCD Division of Education Services to vacate their homes within seven days.

The eviction notice was presented to the teachers and their families who live within the gates of Gerehu Secondary School in Port Moresby.

The teachers claim the notice was not from the Court but from the Education Division in NCD.

They also claim that they had not received their final entitlements from the department as yet as they had only retired in January of this year.

Kilakila secondary school principal Herman Panai and Elizabeth Kant are both currently serving teachers occupying institutional houses and they were also told to leave.

Three other senior retired teachers within Gerehu Secondary School, Simon Kareo former deputy principal administration who served 32 years, Julius Sindy former head of elective subject served for 27 years and Soro Saru head of department in science retired in 2020 and 2023 respectively were told to vacate their homes with their families before another cause of action was taken.

NCD Education Services Division, first secretary Peter Kants said in the notice that the houses were under the Education Department, and due to shortage of accommodation for current serving teachers, the board of governors of Gerehu Secondary School met on August 17 and supported the division’s agenda to evict retired teachers –– including teachers who have long since resigned.
