Two killed in Aroma robbery

Two criminals were allegedly killed by villagers at Egalauna village in Aroma, while trying to rob an Asian shop on Sunday.

Central provincial police commander Chief Inspector Laimo Asi said at around 9.30am, five suspects armed with homemade guns made their way into the store and were about to rob the store when villagers received information of the robbery.

They went to the store and murdered two and injured the others.

The owner of the shop tried to escape from the robbery but sustained injuries while others looted the shop.

He said angry villagers took revenge by lighting the houses of the villagers who killed the robbers and the two Chinese were rescued as well.

He said youths involved in the robbery are identified and warned villagers not to take the law into their own hands and cause further destruction.

The fighting is between neighbouring villages living near the Chinese shop.

PPC Asi also met with some Egala’auna people who reside in Port Moresby and appealed for peace among the villages affected.
