Exercise Coastwatchers Set to Return to Honiara

An Australian Defence Force team will be back in Honiara from late August until late September to partner with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) on a range of training- including small boat handling and maintenance, and border surveillance.

They will also be working with the Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief planning ahead of the Pacific Games.

Coastwatchers is Australia and Solomon Islands’ premier bilateral exercise under the Solomon Islands - Australia Partnership and is named after the Coastwatchers of World War II, who worked alongside the Solomon Scouts.

The exercise is jointly developed by the RSIPF and Defence Australia. This is an annual event since it was first conducted in 2017.
