Health Ministry Launches Strategic Plan 2022-2031

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services yesterday launched its National Health Strategic Plan 2022-2031 under the theme “A Healthy Future for All Solomon Islanders”. 

The strategic plan is developed to ensure that the health Ministry’s resources and efforts are focused on achieving the plan’s vision of ensuring “all Solomon islanders have universal access to equitable quality, preventative, curative, rehabilitative and promotional health services, irrespective of where they live” over the next decade.

It is also guided by the Objective 3 of the National Development Strategy 2016-2035 that all Solomon Islanders have access to quality health and education.

Speaking at the launching, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Mrs. Pauline McNeil acknowledged those involved in developing the plan despite challenges faced by the Ministry the past few years.

“The formulation and development of the strategic plan was done during trying times and challenging times. Particularly when the Ministry was at the forefront and led the Ministry of the preparedness and response efforts on the pandemic.

Despite the challenge, one thing was for certain, and that the Ministry had to develop the strategic plan in time. I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has shaped and refined this strategic plan.”

Minister Culwick Togamana while delivering his remarks states that the strategic plan was formulated following thorough review of past strategic plans to ensure the new plan targets better health services.

“Under the leadership of my Permanent Secretary and her executive, together with the Ministry policy and planning division will resort to do better and focus on building a health system that is fit for the future and provides equitable access to health services for all, hence our vision of a health future for Solomon Islanders,” he said.

The National Health Strategic Plan 2022-2031 is the guiding document which outlines the national strategic directions to improve the health standards of Solomon Islanders in the next 10 years. It contains a comprehensive analysis of the health sector’s progress and situation to date.

It will be delivered under its three objectives of Better governance of the health sector, Systems and Resources meets needs and are responsibly managed and all Solomon Islanders have equitable access to fully implemented, quality healthcare programs.
