National Netball Team Travels to Gold Coast

Eight female members of the Nation’s Netball Team have left the country for Australia, as the rest of team members will join them later this week for upcoming trial games.

The National Netball squad will embark on a 7 day program at the Gold Coast where they will have the opportunity of receiving mentor coaching from an Australian Coach along with participating in some high level trial games against semi-professional franchise teams and other pacific national teams.

On Thursday April 20, the team will take on a top Qld franchise Ipswich jets, who competes in the Qld Sapphire series. Then on Friday April 21, Solomon Islands will take on Melanesian top team, Papua New Guinea (PNG).

The team is then also planned to take on another Pacific or African team who is competing at the Gold Coast in the moment.

According to Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) Executive Director Aaron Alsop, this opportunity will see Solomon Islands Netball team have opportunities to get international exposure they have not had since the 2019 Pacific Games.

SINIS Performance Manager (PM) for Portfolio Two (Team Sports) Amanda Korinihona seeing off the Netball Team at Henderson International Airport wishes them all the best, hoping that the camp and games lined up for them will be a great experience for them to perform as a team on international level.

“Nation’s Netball team are to be at Gold Coast Performance Centre this week. The first half of the Netball Team are travelling today as Head Coach Martha Tolia is travelling with these first 8 girls.

“On Wednesday April 19, the Assistant Coach Beglan Wa’ahero will travel with the next 8 players along with the Team Manager and Physio,” explain Korinihona.
