National Youth Congress Acknowledges UNDP’s Financial Support

Ten representatives from the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress have left the country today for New Zealand, to participate at a regional conference organized by the UNDP Pacific in partnership with the USP Student Association.

The conference will be on Spotlighting anti-corruption in climate change mitigation efforts, and promoting gender equality.

General Secretary of the SI National Youth Congress, Ella Kauhue says UNDP in Solomon Islands, with their focus on Youth empowerment has funded 9 Presidents of the Provincial Youth Councils across the country and a representative from the National Youth Congress to participate in this important conference commencing on 11th to 12th May in Auckland, New Zealand.

She said as future leaders participating at the conference, it will provide a huge opportunity for them to learn from the experiences of young people from other countries in the region on strategies that highlights Ant corruption in climate change and in gender equality.

This is a timely call for young Solomon Islanders to engage in Climate Change conversations and corruption that weakens regulations on environment and enable commercial interests to influence individuals such as politicians or governments to direct policy away from climate action.

Participating at the conference also brings the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress to the spotlight and its visibility to the Government, donor partners and the Civil Society as a whole.

The General Secretary has thanked UNDP in Solomon Islands for its recognition and commitment to the welfare of young people in Solomon Islands.

She said financial support from UNDP is a huge step for the National Youth Congress to move forward and to be seen in the Solomon Islands development.
