Regional Meeting on Family Protection and Domestic Violence Legislation Convenes

Heads of Pacific Government Ministries and Departments with a mandate to co-ordinate the implementation of family protection/domestic violence legislation are in Honiara, Solomon Islands this week.

The meeting is for the annual Regional Working Group on the Implementation of Family Protection/Domestic Violence Legislation convening.

Ahead of the 4th Annual Meeting of the RWG set to take place from 19-20 July 2023, the various subcommittees of the RWG - the Counselling Subcommittee, Advisory Subcommittee, and Data Collection, Monitoring and Evaluation Subcommittee - are meeting over Monday and Tuesday this week to discuss their respective key priorities and actions that will then be presented at the main RWG meeting.

The RWG serves as an enabler for high-level government representatives from ministries directly responsible for the coordination of implementation of domestic violence/family protection legislation to meet regularly to share information and good practices relating to implementation. The RWG also develops action plans that reflect regional priorities on implementation to meet the needs of RWG members.

The Pacific Community (SPC), through its Human Rights and Social Development (HRSD) Division, serves as the Secretariat of the RWG; facilitating information sharing between member countries and states, coordinating RWG plans and activities, supporting the RWG in convening its annual meetings and also helping members with the collection of data to track progress on the implementation of domestic violence legislation.
