He said considerations to use alternatives that are more environmentally friendly should also be included.

“These are positive regulations but it needs to be enforced with clear and strict guidelines,” he said.

Hon Wale said it is not only single use plastics that are causing pollution around the country and that too must be taken into consideration.

He said tough regulations should also be enforced for litterbugs who continue to show no care for the cleanliness of our city.

“Tough laws must be imposed to stop importing plastics with clear and strict regulations as well as for companies, people and households that continue to dispose of plastic waste to pollute the environment,” he said.

He said the Government should also start to invest more on the process of recuperating scrap or waste plastics and reprocessing the material into useful products.

He added the ban of plastic should not only be an undertaking towards the pacific games in November but a long-term solution to the use of plastic in the country.
