In the afternoon hours of Thursday, popular hip-hop artist, Mohamed Massaquoi, nick named ‘Big Fish’, was shot dead by a military officer around Lightfoot Boston/ Gloucester Street in Freetown.
According to eye witnesses, Big Fish was shot after he had snatched a rifle from a state security personnel attached to the United Bank for Africa at Charlotte Street in central Freetown and started shooting randomly.
Before he was shot, eye witnesses said the late artist had earlier muttered that he was in the mood for killing shortly after he had snatched the gun from the officer at the bank.
It is also reported that the military officer who killed Big Fish encouraged him to put down the gun in his possession, but the Artist refused. The officer then fired two shots at him, one in his foot, and the other in his chest.
Big Fish was notorious for violent behavior. In September 2021, he was suspiciously spotted at the State Avenue with a cutlass, shouting “Allahu Akbar” Authorities asked him out of the avenue, but he refused to leave. He was eventually arrested and taken to CID.
Big Fish is believed to have lived in the United States of America for some time, but it is not clear under which circumstances he returned to Sierra Leone. Sources say, he has been acting erratically and insanely since he returned from the U.S.
