Human Rights Defenders Network Sierra Leone, has on Wednesday, 30th August, in partnership with Restitution Impact Limited, organised a one-day training for civil society ornagisations on combating corruption in Sierra Leone.
The training took place at the Methodist Church Hall, kingharman Road in Freetown.
The training was focused on the theme ‘Combating Corruption with a Human Rights Based Approach in Sierra Leone and Developing a National Anti-Corruption Strategy led by civil society.
Chairman Board of Directors, HRDN-Sierra Leone, Solomon Sogbandi, thanked the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany for supporting them.
He described the workshop as a novelty in a way to fighting corruption in Sierra Leone.
He said the fight against corruption is not an easy task and that it is the brain behind under development and it affects the social economic growth of the country.
Representative of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, Peter Bayo, said one of the roles of the commission is to help the fight against corruption in the country.
He added that the commission also has the responsibility to advise government on laws and how the state should respect human rights based on the kind of approaches government takes on human rights issues.
Director of Restitution Impact Limited, Chris Duckett, gave a brief background of their activities in Sierra Leone, adding that they support government on how to retrieve stolen property.
