Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has apprehended a suspected al-Shabab-linked arms smuggler just five months after intelligence forces seized two illicit shipments containing military hardware and explosive materials at the Mogadishu seaport.

In a statement released on Friday, the country's intelligence agency revealed that a 28-year-old Sakaria Kamal Sufi Abba-Sheikh, also known as Saki, was apprehended while attempting to enter an area controlled by al-Shabab without specifying the location.

According to the statement, Sakaria Kamal was the mastermind behind a network responsible for procuring military equipment from abroad for al-Shabab. The agency emphasized that the group concealed the military equipment within commercial shipments, which the agency had seized at the Mogadishu seaport in May of this year.

The intelligence agency also arrested ten people associated with a smuggling network. However, the government officials did not provide further details on the components of the seized shipments, where they were from, or the identities of those involved.
