’DOWNS’ SPHAMANDLA ON SA GALLANTS’ RADAR

MBABANE – Denver Sundowns attacking midfielder Sphamandla ‘24 Reasons’ Maseko is reportedly on his way to join Motsepe Foundation Championship side Marumo Gallants.

The workaholic and skilful player had an impressive season with Ikappa Kappa, helping his team finish inside the top bracket in the recently concluded 2022/23 season. New developments regarding ‘24 Reasons’ as he is fondly known in the soccer corridors suggest that the player was recently in a three-day assessment with the former DStv Premiership club and had done enough to be given another opportunity to train with the first team when the Limpopo-base side return for their preseason.

“Sphamandla left for South Africa earlier this week and has been with Gallants since Tuesday. He returned on Friday evening and he will join the rest of the Gallants players when they return for their preseason training next week Monday ahead of the new season which will start next month. “There were over 40 players that were involved with the hope of signing for the club and Sphamandla was one of the 17 players that were given another chance to train with the first team. The Gallants technical team loved the player even though he got a slight injury while doing his assessment but by the look of things, he will definitely be signed, pending the outcome of his adaptation when he trains with the other players,” a source said.

Relegation

Gallants is a South African football club based in the Limpopo Province, that will play in the South African National First Division, Motsepe Foundation Championship in the 2023-24 season, following relegation from the South African Premier Division in 2022-23. They played in the DStv Premiership for two seasons after purchasing a PSL license from Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila prior to the start of the 2021–22 seasons. Gallants play their home games in Polokwane at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, one of the 2010 FIFA World Cup stadia.

The source went on to reveal that the Codesa Maseko’s son was due to return to South Africa next week. “He will return next week for the final stages of the move which may include doing medical check-up with the view of playing for the club next season. One of the advantages of the player is that he had age on his side and the Gallants technical team like th fact that he was a handwork despite being a player with skills,” said the source. Meanwhile, Ikappa Kappa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elvis Dube said he was yet to learn of the new development regarding their player. “We are currently not aware of what you are talking about regarding Sphamandla and Marumo Gallants,” he said briefly.
