MBABANE – Introduced onto the stage as the kings of Deep House music, SA’s Vinny Da Vinci and DJ Christos proved to be worthy of their title on Saturday at iF’s Lounge.
This was during the Spring Bash, which was held at the venue, which had the pair as the headliners of the event. It was evident that spring was upon us in the outside setting, which was well-planned and executed and allowed fun lovers to party under the stars in the warm weather. There were white garden chairs placed from the lawn entrance of the venue right through to the front of the stage, which created a great ambience for the event.
Performance
When the sun set and with each passing performance, the venue started filling up with music lovers who were ready to party the night away, and the act at the time was Tendaness, who was followed by, at 8pm., the surprise act of the whole event, who even in their intro were solely referred to as the surprise act. This act was a trio that consisted of a pianist, a DJ, and a sketch artist. While the pianist and DJ played in harmony to blend their sounds together, they gave the artist inspiration and the right boost of motivation, which had him sketching away to produce a finished product right as the music ended. It is of note to mention the MC of the event who kept the attendees captivated, and it was none other than local funny man and social media personality, Ndosh. During his announcements and introductions of each performing act, the comedian would crack jokes and tickle the crowd’s funny bones. Other supporting acts included The Bishops, Mistosoul, Fantacy, Wakho, Yamkela, and Acoustic Soul, just to name a few.
Among the artists who jumped on stage and kept the crowd moving were local Hip-Hop sensation Supa CDQ and DJ Crooks, who is one of the local legends in the Eswatini music scene.
Supa CDQ was behind the decks at 11pm. wearing a bright pink T-shirt, because real men wear pink! The crowd favourite was DJ Crooks, who was also the opening act for the headliners, and if one didn’t know better, they would have sworn Crooks was the main man. He blended old school classics with the right dash of new school music, which had the attendees of the event in the VIP leaving their spots to go to the front of the stage. The VIP area was the inside and balcony areas of iF’s Lounge, which allowed one to have a clear view and look down onto the stage and the general section of the event.

After a great, hour-long set and intense sweating from music lovers who just couldn’t get enough of Crooks, at 2am., it was time for the SA legends to give the people what they had been yearning for. With DJ Christos on the left and Vinny Da Vinci on the right, the pair had been paired to render their set together. Their mix, DJs at Work, Summer Rawkus, was definitely a hit because, as soon as the pair transitioned from one song to this one, fun lovers on the dance floor were seen in utter excitement holding their heads. Before their set, the pair got to speak briefly, where Vinny Da Vinci, when asked what Deep House music meant to him, said, “The term Deep House, I believe, is loosely used in South Africa, but no one really understands what it means. I find it hard to explain myself, but simply put, Deep House is the music that Vinny Da Vinci plays,” he said. The record spinner advises up-and-coming DJs to make the right decisions right at the beginning of their career.
