The director of the army's Ordnance Department has been transferred over the disappearance of more than 200,000 litres of diesel from the Ordnance Material Rebuild Centre in Saraburi province last year, an army source said on Sunday.

Under an order signed by army chief Gen Charoenchai Hintao, Lt Gen Sutha Adulthananusak is to be on temporary duty at the army's secretariat to make way for an investigation.

The army earlier said it had set up an investigation committee after it was made aware of the missing diesel, and that investigation is still underway. Anyone found to have been involved would be subject to punitive action, it said.

According to an earlier report to the army, 215,897 litres of B7 diesel mysteriously vanished from storage tanks at the Ordnance Material Rebuild Centre in the 18th Military Circle headquarters in Saraburi in 2022.
