An 18-wheel truck carrying molasses lost control and tipped over in the middle of Ram Intra Road’s outbound lane, causing a lengthy traffic jam and several motorcycles to slip and fall. The incident occurred at 5am today, according to Deputy Traffic Police Inspector Buncha Jantakun of Kunnayao Police Station, who was notified of the accident.

The toppled 18-wheeler, a white Isuzu with registration numbers 64-3444 and 64-4499, spilt molasses across a 50-metre stretch of the road. As a result, three to four motorcycles driving by lost control and fell, with their riders suffering minor abrasions.

Due to the accident, officials had to block off the two left lanes of the road, directing traffic to use only the right lane leading to the bridge. This caused a significant traffic jam on the outbound lane of Ram Intra Road, expected to last for several hours while awaiting the removal of the toppled truck.

Buncha stated that the accident likely occurred around 4 am, and it is speculated that the driver might have been drowsy, and the darkness of the area could have contributed to the truck losing control and tipping over at the bridge’s uphill bend, causing molasses to spill throughout more than 50 metres, reported KhaoSod.

Buncha added that they are now waiting for a large crane and officials from the Kunnayao District Office to commence operations, which could take approximately two hours.

Meanwhile, the motorcycles involved in the accident have been taken to Kunnayao Police Station for logging as evidence.
