Over 15,000 tourists visit Afghan Herat province in 9 months

HERAT, Afghanistan, May 23 (Xinhua) -- More than 15,000 local and foreign tourists have visited historical monuments and cultural heritages in the western Herat province over the past nine months, head of the province tourism department Wahidullah Sultani said Monday.

In addition to Afghans from across the war-torn country, many foreign tourists from India, Pakistan, Iran and Spain have paid visits to Herat and toured the historical sites, the official added.

The number of tourists visiting Herat has been on a constant rise, Sultani said, adding that the administration would do its best to attract more tourists to the country.

The number of tourists visiting Afghanistan has decreased, the Taliban-run administration since its takeover in mid-August 2021 has promised to facilitate a conducive environment for local and foreign tourists to visit beautiful landscapes and historical monuments of the country.
