Sesame flatbread costs twice as much as regular bread in Ashgabat state-run stores

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that Ashgabat state-run stores are now selling a new type of flatbread, which costs twice or 2,5 times as much as regular flatbread. The only difference is that they are sprinkled with sesame seeds.

Bread is supplied to state-run retail outlets by “Ahal galla önümleri” bakery. Regular flatbread is 1 manat. A similar flatbread, with the same quality and the same weight, but with sesame seeds, costs 2 to 2.5 manats depending on the amount of sesame seeds.

Since 28 May no more than 150 flatbreads at 1 manat have been supplied to the state-run stores in the residential district Parakhat 7/1 despite the fact that the demand for them is higher. It should be pointed that that regular flatbread is sold only after stores run out of sesame flatbread. Customers who hurry to work in the morning cannot wait for the sale of cheap bread and purchase more expensive bread with sesame seeds.

Bread is still supplied to stores late in the evening and is sold starting at 7-7:30 a.m. the next day when it is already dry and cold.

Flatbread of higher quality costs 5-6 manats in markets.
