Dean of the College of Cardinals Informs All Cardinals by E-mail on the Pope’s State of Health

“The Holy Father rested well during the night. The hematochemical controls he underwent were regular; his respiratory physiotherapy continues. This was the notification with which the Vatican Press Office made known the progress of Pope Francis’ postoperative recovery, at midday on Tuesday, June 13. Mentioned also was that “he dedicated the morning to work activities alternated with the reading of texts,” and that, “before lunch, he went to the Chapel of his private floor, where he recollected himself in prayer and received the Eucharist.”

Towards the end of the afternoon of the same day, Tuesday the 13th, another notification arrived: “The postoperative recovery continues at a good pace. In the afternoon, the Holy Father continued with his work and his reading.”

The surprise of the day was the e-mail that Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, sent to all the Cardinals, in which he notifies on his own about the Pope’s state of health: “His Holiness’ state of health is recovering well and he will return to the Vatican from the Gemelli [Clinic] on Thursday or Friday. I have spoken with the Holy Father and have assured him of the cordial closeness of all the Cardinals.”
