Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is honoring all who serve from American Samoa this National Armed Forces Day, this Saturday May 20, and National Military Appreciation Month.

“In honor of Armed Forces Day, Armed Forces Week, and National Military Appreciation Month, thank you to each of our nation’s Service Members!” said Congresswoman Amata. “Each of you takes an oath to our Constitution, and undertakes challenging duties, difficult training days, and key responsibilities. We think especially of our Toa o Samoa, including the Army Reserve in American Samoa, and those stationed all over the U.S. and allied bases. Thank you for serving the cause of freedom, and helping to preserve peace through strength. In keeping with Military Appreciation Month, thank you also to all of our military families, who sacrifice precious time with family members as they serve. We have you in our prayers, and may God bless and keep you as you serve.”

Armed Forces Day is the third Saturday of May every year, and completes Armed Forces Week. This appreciation day is specific to those currently serving the nation, while Veterans Day in November honors those who’ve completed their service. Armed Forces Day has been a growing tradition since it was created under President Harry Truman, and first observed in 1950.
