Former Idols SA contestant Mthokozisi Ndaba has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons following his stint in the singing competition in 2017. And his latest scandal is his worst yet
The now-married, father-of-two was arrested in Durban this week on allegations of raping a young woman.
The season 13 Idols SA runner-up was released on bail after the alleged incident took place on Sunday 7 August.
‘IDOLS SA‘ STAR MTHOKOZISI CHARGED WITH RAPE
Speaking to Daily Sun, the 24-year-old unidentified woman recounted her version of what transpired.
She said: “I met Mthokozisi for the first time at a carwash on Saturday. I was with my friends, and he was driving a kombi. From there we partied all night until Sunday morning. Mthokozisi then offered to drop everyone at home”.
She continued: “He said he would drop me off last because he wanted to talk to me. I agreed. We then drove to a park where we voluntarily kissed. But then I became uncomfortable and asked him to stop…but he didn’t”.
Things then took a quick turn for the worse, continued the woman.

“I don’t know when he got undressed. Everything happened so fast. He became violent and started undressing me. I kept asking him to stop, but he didn’t. He raped me and was proud about it”.
The woman claimed that after Mthokozisi dropped her off at home, she went to the Kwa-Mashu police station to open a charge of rape. She also visited her nearest clinic for an examination.
She added: “I don’t know what is going to happen next, but I’m scared…I feel unsafe…Now I want justice”.
Following his arrest, Mthokozisi appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrates court and was released on R1500 bail. When approached for comment from the publication, he responded: “I am not ready to talk about it yet”.

ASSAULT, ANGER ISSUES, AND ALCOHOLISM
Mthokozisi Ndaba’s spate of scandals started in 2017 following his stint on Idols SA. Having been announced as runner-up to winner Paxton Fielies, the Durban singer courted controversy after storming off stage.
He also refused to congratulate Paxton and declined media interviews. According to the show’s organisers, Mthokozisi was “receiving assistance to deal with emotions involved in this situation”.
One week later, Mthokozisi was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman he met at a party in Braamfontein.
Neo Tsele claims the singer hit her continuously after they got into an argument. “He only stopped when he saw his hands were full of blood,” she told the Sunday Times.
The charges were later provisionally withdrawn.

Fast forward to 2020 and Mthokozisi claimed the ban on alcohol and tobacco “forced” him to quit.
He shared on social media: “In everything, there’s a good and a bad side, indeed the lockdown healing process had paralysed our country in many ways, but also it has forcefully rehabilitated me from my strong addiction to alcohol and cigarette without attending professional help.”
Ironically, Mthokozisi is an ambassador for Barkunski Original Vodka.
Mthokozisi later wed actress Nandipha Sefoloko. The couple share two children together.
