Kensington kidnapping: Armed suspects used two vehicles in abduction

A six-year-old boy, Shanawaaz Asghar, was kidnapped outside his home in Kensington, Cape Town on Wednesday morning, 17 August. The South African Police Service (SAPS) has shared more details about his alleged abduction.


As previously reported, SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Andre Traut, told The South African the Grade R learner was kidnapped by six armed suspects on 4th Avenue, Kensington.

The group fled the scene and no arrests were made. “Due to the sensitive nature of our investigation, we will not be disclosing any further information regarding the incident at this premature stage,” said Traut, reluctant to share further details.

According to Shanawaaz’s amber alertth Avenue and 9th Street in Kensington. He was reportedly on his way to school, Hidayatul Islam Primary, which is in the area.

“The armed suspects kidnapped the child using two (2) Volkswagen Polo`s, colour silver and white,” said police.

Shanawaaz was reportedly wearing a navy tracksuit top, grey pants and black shoes – the same clothing he is wearing in a photograph circulating on social media. He is described as having a tall and slim build with black eyes and hair.
