Ramokgopa: SA has turned corner with power cuts, but not out of the woods yet

CAPE TOWN - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said the country has turned the corner with power cuts, but it’s not out of the woods yet.

He also listed some positives, like the return to service of Kusile Units 3 and 1 over September.

"So I really want to conclude by saying that we’ve turned the corner but we’re not necessarily out of the woods and that’s why I’m saying we need to accelerate our efforts working across government."

He said the improved generation and lower-than-projected demand had allowed for an exponential increase in planned outages or "good maintenance".

"Last week, we saw generation breach the psychological mark of 30,000 megawatts, largely buoyed by the return to service of Kusile Units 3 and 1 over the past month."
