Sex Expo: Naughty but nice

Workshops, plays, and kinky experiences attract a lot of people, offering them fun and engaging things to do.

Hang onto your conservative bonnets and moral compasses own away. The Sex Expo makes its dozenth instalment over Rugby World Cup Final weekend at Gallagher Estate.

The Sex Expo has come a long way since it first blasted onto the scene with thousands of South Africans flocking through its doors to realise that part of their inhibited selves which never manifests at home, work, or play.

It was an awakening for many people and while some would never be seen dead inside an adult shop, the Sex Expo, formerly Sexpo, has always drawn the numbers – and this year is no exception. Organisers say admission presales have been substantial.

Entertainment and adult delights galore

The usual suspects will be there: Pricasso, who paints impressive caricatures of willing models will be plying his trade with his penile toolkit. In the past, he has created some controversial art, with satirical impressions of Julius Malema and Jacob Zuma among many other political glitterati.

Blushing subjects are stock standard at his stand. And if you have not had a Pricasso done yet, then make 2023 your star-turn year. There are stage shows scheduled, too. There is always something happening, a bit on the naughty side, with a generous measure of eye candy and comedic crowd participation.

Amateur strip shows, with audience members trying their hand at shedding their clobber, has become a mainstay attraction and participants continue to rise every year, competing for prizes.

It’s a whole lot of fun, and the shopping is undeniably a market of mucho grandela naughty, where some of the goodies on offer can leave you shaken and stirred in all the right places. Whether its self-pleasure toolkits, couples’ games, kinky bondage or Japanese rope art sets, there is something for everyone, every fetish.

Empowering intimate exploration and relationship enhancement

Importantly the Sex Expo is not about naughty alone, it’s also about couples and individuals being able to explore their sexuality, solidify relationships and grow intimacy. To this end, there are workshops every 30 minutes.

These are presented by experts across the sexual wellness spectrum. The Sex Expo is a safe place to explore fetishes and aspects of individual sexuality. It offers VIP lounges, where experiences have been lined up to satisfy curious visitors, and purposed for exploration of different themes and kinks which may be somewhat, well, left of centre. Anything goes, and that is what makes it so attractive to so many people.

Immersive erotic education and sensual experiences

This year, sexpert Jonty Searlll adds the Theatre of Erotica to the Sex Expo playbook. It is billed as “workshops in an intimate theatre setting, focusing on how to give and receive pleasure”. While the Netflix-inspired Red Room will showcase to couples how to build their own naughty nest at home, with design ideas that allow for the expression of fantasy.

The Studio of Seduction will be a private room which allows event goers the opportunity to participate in workshops to hone their sexy skills. These workshops will take place on the hour and will include pole dancing, sensual massage, bondage and other adult themes. There will also be adult content creators and stars creating live content at the event.
