Nakonde woman pours hot water on son for allegedly stealing K100

An 8-year old boy of Katozi village in Nakonde district is nursing serious burns after his biological mother poured hot water on him for allegedly stealing K100.

Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer, Kaunda Mubanga, confirmed the incident to ZANIS and identified the mother to the victim as Esnart Nakonde of the same abode.

Mr Mubanga said the suspect, who is a single mother of two boys, noticed that her money amounting to K100 was missing from her bedroom when she returned home from ordering vegetables for her business.

“On 14 March, 2023 at around 05:00 hours, she left her two children in the house and went to town to order vegetables for selling. She also left a K100 note hidden in some clothes in her bedroom. However, when she returned home around 10: 00 hours, she discovered that the money was missing and she immediately knew it was her son,” Mr Mubanga explained.

He also explained that upon realising that the money was missing, she followed her child at Katozi primary school where he is a pupil and found him buying fritters and ice blocks.

Mr Mubanga added that she later took him back home where she poured hot water on him causing him to sustain burns on the left side of the body and left hand.

He explained that the incident attracted attention from some members of the community, including Katozi village head woman, Lean Namukonda, who initially reported the matter to the One Stop Centre and thereafter to the police.

He said the victim is currently admitted at Nakonde urban clinic where he is receiving medical treatment while the suspect is in police custody.

“Acting on the matter, officers visited the victim at Nakonde urban clinic where he is admitted and issued him with a medical report form to facilitate medical examinations,” he said.

Mr Mubanga said a docket of case has since been opened adding that the suspect will soon appear in court.
