ZAFFA Applauds Kennedy Mweene’s Illustrious Football Career

The Zambia Football Fans Association (ZAFFA) has applauded the Former Zambia National team and Mamelodi Sundowns goal keeper legend Kennedy Mweene’s illustrious football career.

On July 10, 2023, the 2012 AFCON winner officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 38.

In an interview with Lusaka Star, Zambia Football Fans Association (ZAFFA ) President, Pastor Peter Makembo said the short stopper’s football career is influential to the national team and the upcoming players.

“Discipline has helped Mr. Mweene to be successful in his career and the current players will be urged to draw lessons from him,” he said.

However, he advised the player and the other retired AFCON legends to obtain advanced coaching licenses and venture into it.

” It’s high time all the retired Zambian players learnt coaching in order to gain certificates and licenses on the technical bench,” Pastor Makembo said.

He added that the current teams need to tap into the talent from the legends hence the call for them to get coaching qualifications.

Meanwhile, soccer analyst Yotam Mwanza said Mr. Mweene’s is not comparable to other players because his notable football career is as the result of the discipline and commitment he exhibited over the years.

“Looking at the time Kennedy Mweene won the 2012 AFCON with the rest of the former Chipolopolo team until now, still playing and being active tells you a lot about him and looking back, he will be proud of his achievements,” he said.

Mr. Mwanza encouraged the other players to learn from Mr. Mweene’s long term hard work and consistency shown so that they can achieve more than he has done.
