Imran Khan remains in Attock jail despite orders for transfer to Adiala Jail

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the authorities in the country to transfer former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Prison to a facility with better amenities.

Imran Khan has been in Attock Jail since August 5 due to his conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case.

Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in prison early last month for disclosing confidential letters and selling government gifts.

A special court, operating under the Official Secrets Act, extended Imran Khan’s judicial remand in the cypher case until September 26. It was scheduled for Imran Khan to appear in court today for his case, but Pakistani authorities did not allow him to attend due to security concerns.

Meanwhile, Mr Khan’s defence lawyers accuse the Pakistan government of making excuses.

Naeem Haider Panjotha, Imran Khan’s defence lawyer, told the media, “We had requested Mr Khan’s bail, but it has been delayed again, and the government is making excuses.”

The former Prime Minister of Pakistan revealed a confidential letter last year and accused the United States of orchestrating his removal from the position of Prime Minister.

The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to hear this case in October.
