The 28th edition of the AID Clay Court Tennis Championships will get underway this Saturday and run through August 27 at the Gym Tennis Club in Winton Meadows.

‘The AID’, as it is known, is one of the most popular events on the local tennis calendar. The two-week event will offer singles and doubles competitions in 10 categories: Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Open Singles and Doubles, Gentlemen’s and Ladies 35-and-Over Singles and Doubles, and Mixed Doubles in both open and 35-and-over categories.

Additionally, there will be under-14 boys and girls singles competitions for the younger tennis players.

The Board of the Gym Tennis Club recently released a statement.

“‘The Gym’ is again happy to host this amazing tournament and we are grateful to AID for their usual generous sponsorship. We look forward to the keen competition and camaraderie the tournament is known for,” read the statement.

President of AID Jason Watson recently presented the club with a sponsorship check and the usual giveaways for all entrants, including T-shirts and other gifts. Attractive trophies will be awarded to all winners and runners-up.

The entry deadline for interested players is Wednesday August 10 at 6 p.m. and the draws for all divisions will take place at the Gym Tennis Club on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Entries can be returned by email to aidclaycourts@hotmail.com or delivered to the Gym Tennis Club. Participants may enter in a maximum of three categories.

The entry fee is $20 for each singles event and $10 per player for each doubles event. The juniors can pay half price for all events.
