Five years after an eight-month-old infant was shot dead, the man accused of his murder is still waiting to be tried.

Anton Anthony Davis, 24, was supposed to go to trial today for the murder of Shelton Tinker Jr. and the attempted murders of his parents.

However, Senior Justice Bernard Turner vacated the trial date on September 22 after prosecutors said the matter was not ready for trial because they were still waiting on reports.

At the opening of the legal year, Attorney General Ryan Pinder acknowledged that delays in obtaining evidence prevented trials from being heard within a reasonable time.

Pinder said the executive “must do a better job at providing the framework and infrastructure for obtaining ballistic reports and provide an avenue for providing reliable DNA evidence. We need to improve in the collection, handling, and evaluation of evidence to contribute to the efficient administration of justice.”

Davis, who is on bail, returns to court on September 30 to receive a new trial date.

His alleged crime made headlines after police reported that a gunman forced his way into a home on Rupert Dean Lane around 3 a.m. on August 28, 2017 and fatally shot an infant while critically wounding his parents.
