Men charged with RBDF marine’s murder

Police on Thursday charged two men who they say are responsible for the murder of Marine Seaman Alvarez McCoy.

Prosecutors say Briantino Fox, 26, and Jeron Stuart, 20, of Yamacraw Hill Road, fatally shot McCoy on January 18 after he pulled up to his home on Armbrister Street in Fox Hill.

Fox and Stuart were not required to enter pleas to the charges when they made their first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

They were denied bail and will next appear before the magistrate on May 10 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment that will send their case to the Supreme Court for trial.

Stuart’s lawyer, Geoffrey Farquharson, told the magistrate that police prevented his client’s relatives from accessing his apartment to get him a change of a clothing. According to Farquharson, Stuart’s apartment was cordoned off and treated as a crime scene.

Although Farquharson said he had been informed that the investigations were completed, Stuart’s family members still were barred from the property.

Fox’s lawyer, Alphonso Lewis, said his client was in the same position because he and Stuart live together.

Meanwhile, prosecutors yesterday upgraded an attempted murder charge to murder after a shooting victim died on January 15, 2023.

Prosecutors say Godfrey Minnis shot Philip Moxey on March 18, 2022 at Alamo Lounge on Rupert Dean Lane.

Minnis was charged with attempted murder in June and subsequently granted bail.

However, Minnis is back in custody after prosecutors say Moxey died as a result of the gunshot injuries inflicted.

Minnis disputed this when he appeared before the chief magistrate, saying that the deceased suffered from seizures.

Minnis broke down in tears as he spoke to his girlfriend, whom he claimed supported him while he was detained on the attempted murder charge.

He returns to court on May 10 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment in the murder case.
