Police: Wanted suspect killed in shootout with officers

A man wanted in connection with several armed robberies was shot and killed by police after he shot at them, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said yesterday.

The incident happened after 5 a.m. at a residence in Gamble Heights off Baillou Hill Road.

Skippings said police learned that the wanted suspect, who was in his early 20s, was at the residence.

When the suspect saw police, he fired at them and was fatally shot, she said.

“The police are here to maintain law and order,” she said.

“We are here to preserve the peace. We are here to protect life and property and those persons who fail to obey law and order, this could be their fate.

“Police have families who love them and care for them and we are here to guard and protect the good citizens of this Bahamas that we love.”

This is the second police-involved killing since Saturday.

Police shot and a killed a man on Saturday who they said was fleeing an armed robbery and later shot at them.
