Chakwera defies austerity measures to 2022 UN General Assembly

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera will physically attend this year’s United Nations General Assembly scheduled for the September 13 to 27, 2022.

This is against own austerity measures his Tonse government announced last month of reducing local and international trips.

Chakwera’s appetite for trips worrying

Since assuming the highest office in 2020 Chakwera has never physically attended the high level summit in his capacity as president due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

Presidential Press Secretary, Anthony Kasunda says with vaccines available to all delegates, the United Nations has invited Heads of State to attend in person.

Chakwera will also give reasons to travel abroad amid economic turmoil Malawians are going through since assuming the president in July 2020.
