A 3-month-old boy left in a hot car in Washington, D.C. has died, according to authorities.

Police responded to his home shortly after 6:00 pm. Aaron Boyd Jr. was found unconscious and not breathing on Tuesday, the D.C. Metropolitan Police said.Aaron was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The heat index (feels like temperature) soared to her 106 degrees in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.

It is unclear how long Aaron was left in his black Honda Accord, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing, police said Thursday. An autopsy reveals Aaron's cause and cause of death.

Aaron is the 15th child to die from a hot car in the United States so far this year, according to the national nonprofit Kids&Cars.org.
