Three dead after house explodes, cause unknown: authorities

Authorities say more victims may be found during the search.

Three people died after a house exploded in southern Indiana on Wednesday, officials said.

Dozens of firefighters were dispatched to the scene after an explosion occurred on He 1,000 blocks of North Weinbach Avenue in Evansville, officials said.

So far, three deaths have been reported to the Vanderborough County Coroner's Office as a result of the blast, Chief Coroner David Anson said in a statement. He said the victim's name will be released until the family is notified.

Evansville Fire Chief Mike Connelly told reporters Wednesday night that the home in which the blast occurred was destroyed and that 39 of his other structures were "severely damaged or damaged. He suffered minor injuries," he said. The Knight Township Trustee's Office was one of the damaged buildings and will be closed in the near future, officials said.

About 60 firefighters were on site to assist, Connery said. Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke was also monitoring the damage at the scene.
