(CNN) —Written Letter By Alexander Hamilton, one of the founders of the United States, what was thought to have been lost for decades is finally on display at the Federal Museum in Massachusetts.
Hamilton, then captain of the New York artillery, sent a letter at the end of the Revolutionary War. Lafayette, a French aristocrat, helped Americans in the fight against Britain. In the letter, Hamilton warned Lafayette that "enemy" troops were coming to Rhode Island, endangering French troops.
In November 2018, the letter was issued at an auction house in Alexandria, Virginia, and was placed under the control of the FBI the following year.
The July 4th exhibition at the Federal Museum is the first opportunity for the public to see the letter since it was returned to Massachusetts, the news release said. ..
Exhibits include other 18th century letters from John Hancock announcing independence from England to the Massachusetts Parliament and George Washington to the Massachusetts Court. The original document is also included. With a copy of the Declaration of Independence.
