Aaron Judge’s family on Yankees star’s historic night: ‘It’s all about him’

ARLINGTON, Texas — Aaron Judge’s family had a front-row seat to history Tuesday night at Globe Life Field.

After the Yankees slugger crushed his record-breaking 62nd home run in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, he was able to share the postgame celebration with his dad Wayne, mom Patty and wife Samantha.

The trio had been following Judge’s home run chase for almost every game since mid-September — and in his mom’s case, every game — before being there together to watch him finally break Roger Maris’ American League and franchise record in a 3-2 loss to the Rangers.

“I don’t have a comment right now, I’m still trying to soak it in myself,” Wayne Judge said.

“It’s all about him,” he added, pointing to his son walking ahead of him as the family went out to the field to take more pictures together.

Only Judge’s mom made the trip to Toronto last week when Judge tied Maris with his 61st home run, but they were all in attendance on Tuesday.

And when he was rounding the bases after hitting No. 62 in the first inning of the doubleheader nightcap, Judge said his family came to mind.

“I was thinking about my wife, thinking about my family, my teammates, the fans,” Judge said. “All that was kind of running through my head, just the constant support I’ve gotten through this whole process and this whole year from them especially. That’s all that was really running through my head.”

Judge said the entirety of what he accomplished had not fully sunk in yet, and he didn’t expect that it would until the offseason. But he planned to take it all in late Tuesday night on the eve of the regular-season finale.

“That’s what we got tonight for: soak it in, soak in the moment, soak in the moment with my family and get ready for the game[Wednesday],” Judge said.
