FAIRFAX, Va. — Amber Heard on Thursday dismissed claims that she never expected Kate Moss to take the stand in Johnny Depp’s defense at their bombshell defamation trial.
When asked by Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez if she was caught off-guard by the British supermodel’s testimony on Wednesday, Heard responded in the negative.
“I know how many people will come out of the woodwork to be in support of Johnny,” she said.
The “Aquaman” actress had briefly brought up Moss in her previous testimony, while describing a fight where she punched Depp in the face out of fear he was going to shove her sister Whitney Henriquez down a staircase.
Heard said at the time that she “immediately thought of Kate Moss and the stairs.” Her mention of the fashion icon opened the door for Depp’s lawyers to call Moss to stand to refute the rumor.
Moss testified via video from England on Wednesday that Depp never threw her down a flight of stairs during their relationship in the mid-1990s.
“He never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any stairs,” Moss told the Virginia courtroom.
On Thursday, Vasquez challenged Heard, saying, “When you told this jury under oath that you punched Mr. Depp because you thought of Mr. Depp pushing Kate Moss down the stairs, you didn’t expect Ms. Moss to testify that that never happened, did you?”
“Everybody who was around [in the] ’90s, in the early aughts knew that rumor,” Heard insisted.
“Of course that’s what I thought when my violent husband not only swung for me but now my sister.”
“I thought he was gonna kill my sister pushing her down the stairs,” Heard said of Depp.
Heard’s testimony is the latest development in the trial that has gone on for six weeks. Shortly after her latest revelation, Heard’s attorneys rested their counterargument and the judge dismissed the jury for the rest of the day.
Closing argument are expected to begin Friday morning, with the jury beginning deliberations as early as Friday afternoon.
