(CNN)In the countryside of Brentwood, California, an Amtrack train passing through an intersection without passing through a gate is a passenger car Three people were seriously injured on Sunday, with three people injuring the other two, according to people who died in the clash.
All five victims were in the car and attending the event near the train route, said Marshal Steve Oberth of the East Contra Costa County Fire Department. The injured adult and two children were airlifted to a local hospital and were seriously injured, he said.
Obert said this was not the first crash at the same intersection.
"Because it's in the countryside of our district, there's more farmland there," he said. "There are no crossing arms and no signal at that crossing. This isn't the first accident I've been to the same place. The train can travel up to 80 miles per hour along that section, so it's that. It doesn't take long to catch up with the intersection. "
According to Aubert, the Amtrack train was carrying 85 people and no one was injured.
Railroad company BNSF is investigating the case and says the line is currently open for training traffic.
