New week, new hosts – and for real this time. ABC confirmed last Friday (Jan. 27) that former Good Morning America hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have been booted from their lunchtime talk show GMA3: What You Need To Know and the network.
Their story was pretty epic and spanned nearly two months. The two dethroned hosts were taken off air in December after The Daily Mail exposed their scandalous affair, resulting in an immediate boost in viewership and numerous think pieces and commentary on whether ABC was doing the right thing.
Through it all, Robach and Holmes kept to themselves, as much as they could with paparazzi newly following their every move. The two were spotted moving out of their marital homes, filing for divorce, and jetting off to Atlanta and Miami over the holidays, seemingly without a care in the world. They made it clear to their audience that their relationship had nothing to do with their jobs, despite ABC dragging them through the mud.
Then came the rumors of lawyers. It was reported that both had lawyered up and were prepared to sue the network with Holmes interested in how race played into the decision-making, especially since ABC News President Kim Godwin said early on that neither party violated the company’s policy. The situation continued to grow messy and Holmes was accused of having relationships with an ABC producer and an ABC intern, the latter of which was described as “predatory.”
Last Friday, Robach and Holmes’ standing with the network became confirmed after a rumored “contentious” mediation session. An ABC spokesperson told Decider in a statement, “After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News. We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions.”
So, now it’s time to say goodbye to our daily GMA3 updates as our question has been answered: Are Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes on GMA3 today? Nope! Sorry folks, they are not – and they won’t be in the future.
In the meantime, the lunchtime program has been rotating through replacement hosts to occupy the news desk with regular host, Dr. Jennifer Ashton. Thus far, DeMarco Morgan, Rhiannon Ally, Stephanie Ramos, Gio Benitez, Janai Normal, and Dr. Darien Sutton have appeared on the talk show, with Morgan and Ally seeming to be the network’s favorites.
