Australian TikTokers in US for Burning Man stunned by aggressive American men

Two Australian women have shared what they really think about American men following a recent trip the US.

In a now-viral TikTok, Brisbane, Australia woman Maria and her friend explained they were in the country for Burning Man, a hugely popular festival in Nevada. But it was some of their male encounters that left a lasting impression, and not in a good way.

“The confidence in men that approach you in the street that are trying to pick you up is out of this world,” Maria begins, with her friend, who is also in the clip, describing it as “ballsy”.

“Like, at home no one will ever approach me walking through the street,” Maria continued, before turning to her friend saying, “I think it has happened to you like, once.”

“We have been here walking in the street for one day and the amount of men that just come up to you and say, ‘Hey what’s your number?’ They’re really persistent.”

TikTok user Maria and her friend have shared a clip explaining their culture shock when they went to the US.

Maria’s friend recalled how she was on the phone and a man interrupted to try to talk to her.

“I was FaceTiming my son almost in tears and this guy is like, ‘Where are you from, can I get your number?’” Maria added.

She said they were riding their bikes through the streets of San Francisco when a man in a truck allegedly followed them six blocks trying to get their number.

“It’s actually so creepy,” Maria’s friend said.

“I had an American guy hassle me so badly about my socials that I eventually said, ‘We don’t have that in Australia,’” one woman wrote.

The Brisbane women were shocked by how ‘persistent’ some American men were.

But some others saw the confidence in US men as “refreshing”.

“So many beautiful women in Aus who don’t even know how gorgeous they are until they go to the States,” one person wrote.

Another said: “The confidence is actually refreshing sometimes. Aussie guys just look and don’t say anything.”

It comes after a Canadian woman went viral when she shared a clip saying how the men in Australia are “lacking”.

“Saying that, I do have an Australian boyfriend and he’s not lacking, but before him I was not into Australian boys whatsoever,” Jamison, 18 said in a TikTok.

“I swear the men really do lack here. The rest of the world has an even ratio of beautiful men to women, I swear,” one TikTok user wrote.

“100,000 percent the men here are a 0.5,” a second person wrote, while a third joked: “I’ve lived in Australia my whole life and I’ve had enough of guys.”

Coffee is ‘s—t in a pot’

In the second half of the clip, Maria and her friend went on to explain how disappointed they were with the coffee situation in the US.

“If you aren’t at a Starbucks and you ask for a coffee then it is just the brewed sh*t in a pot,” Maria complained.

The clip has since been viewed more than 1.8 million times, attracting almost 10,000 comments.

“You can’t actually order a latte or anything outside of that – they just look at you with a blank face,” her friend added.

“I asked for an iced long black and the woman said, ‘Oh, we only do coffee here,’” she said.

And one more thing that shocked the Aussie women was the way Americans drive.

“The speed limits here are actually just a suggestion,” Maria said.

“We put our cruise control on, set the speed, and even the police were flying past us. You guys are crazy,” she said.
