NHL Opening Night Preview

With the Colorado Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup last season with a 4-2 series win over the defending champs Tampa Bay Lightening, they now come into this season as the rightful favorite with hopes of a repeat.

They come in as a heavy favorite in terms of futures, sitting around +400 at most books. Andre Burakovsky and Nazem Kadri are gone, but the Avs are still loaded on every line and will look to punish teams with their depth.

For the season opener, they decided to go a little non-traditional. The NHL season technically starts Friday, October 7th, internationally, with the Sharks and Predators playing a back-to-back Global NHL series. It’s the first time the NHL has played an international game since 2019.

In North America, the season starts October 11th with two primetime television games, with the Rangers taking on the Lightening and the Kings hosting the Golden Knights for the nightcap.

If you don’t mind tying up money throughout the season, I would take the Avs to repeat as Stanley Cup champions at any number higher than +400 before we see this number dip as the season progresses. They are still the most complete roster, with loads of talent on every line.
