Blackhawks hires Luke Richardson as next head coach

The Chicago Blackhawks are approaching a deal with Luke Richardson to become their next coach and have already relied on former NHL defense to rebuild them painfully. Leading the process.

According to someone familiar with the negotiations, Richardson and the Blackhawks are working on a deal and the move could be completed soon next week. The person spoke to the Associated Press on Friday, subject to anonymity, because the transaction had not been completed.

Richardson (53) has played in six teams for 21 years in the league, finishing 1,417 games with 35 goals and 166 assists. He was ranked 7th overall in the 1987 draft by Toronto.

Richardson retired in the 2008-09 season and joined Ottawa's coaching staff. He was the head coach of the Senator AHL Affiliate from 2012 to 2016.

Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Richardson has been an assistant to Montreal's coach staff for the past four seasons. When Dominique Dusham was diagnosed with COVID-19 during the 2021 playoffs, Richardson took over the coaches of the six games and helped lead the Canadians to the first Stanley Cup Finals since 1993.

"He's a great person. He did a lot of work when he played for COVID, "said Tampa Bay forward Corey Perry, who played for Montreal last season. "The guys are going to respect him. He's been in the game for a long time. He really knows the game."

Chicago in 2010, 2013 and 2015 I won the Stanley Cup, but in recent years I have been struggling. It started this past season with a desire for playoffs, but stumbled upon a 1-9-2 start on the way to a record of 28-42-12 and a 7th place finish in the Central Division.

Longtime general manager Stan Bowman has mishandled an organization's allegations that an assistant coach has sexually assaulted a player during the 2010 team's Stanley Cup match. I resigned in October after receiving a report from the office.

Kyle Davidson was promoted to a provisional position before officially taking over on March 1. Nome Mashiver joined the front office as a deputy GM in March, and Jeff Greenberg was hired in the same role in April.

Richardson will replace Derek King, who finished the season as an interim coach after Jeremy Colliton was fired on November 6th. 27-33-10 records.

I have a big question along the line with the goalkeeper. If the team decides to trade stars Patrick Kane, Alex Devlinkat, and Jonathan Tows for longer-term assets, it could look dramatically different next season.
