(CNN)Two-time US Olympic basketball gold medalist Brittney Griner uses drugs inIn a Russian court near Moscow, her lawyer confirmed with CNN Thursday.
Greener, 31, is charged and faces up to 10 years in prison. She left the court without commenting to the reporter, and her next hearing is scheduled for July 14.
Greener was arrested at Moscow Airport in February after Russian authorities said he found cannabis oil in her luggage. Basketball stars playing in Russia during the WNBA's off-season have since been detained on charges of drug smuggling, which can be punished with up to 10 years in prison. Her trialbegan last week.
The US State Department has classified Greener as illegally detained, and her supportershave confirmed that she is being used as a political pawn during Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Feared and asked for her release.
