Lucky it’s got nine lives!
A cat called Teddy has been found alive in the rubble of a house, six days after it collapsed due to a fatal gas explosion.
The fortuitous feline, a ragdoll moggy breed, was presumed dead from the March 13 blast — which killed a 68-year-old Wales man — but was miraculously found alive nearly a week later.
Teddy’s owner Claire Griffiths-Bennett, 49, and her son Ethan, 14, were rushed to a hospital after the blast, with Griffiths-Bennett noting the cat was sitting next to her at the time — and she feared the worst.
“There was a concern that he may not have survived the blast,” an RSPCA spokesperson said.
Their other cat, Fern, and a puppy also have been rescued and accounted for.
Rescue workers spotted the fluffy kitty in the rubble the following day but were unable to get him out.
However, police and rescuers worked “tirelessly to try to catch” the cat, despite the “dangerous condition” that resulted from the blast.
However, when his owner was released from the hospital on Sunday, March 19, she went back to the south Wales home to look for him — and the ragdoll reappeared when she whistled for him.
Rescue workers said Teddy “was dusty, a little cross” after the ordeal, but was otherwise unharmed and reunited with his owner.
The family’s neighbors were thrilled with the rescue.
“It’s comforting to have some good news, despite such a horrendous incident,” one woman said.
“Absolutely fantastic news,” agreed another. “So pleased he’s been reunited with his owner. Well done to all involved in his search and rescue.”
