Cher was all smiles while talking about her new beau on today’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The 76-year-old singer, who confirmed that she is dating 36-year-old Alexander “AE” Edwards, poked fun at the 40-year age difference between her and the rapper/music executive.
“On paper, it’s kind of ridiculous, but in real life, we get along great,” she told host Kelly Clarkson. “He’s fabulous, and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.”
The popstar went on to describe her new man, who shares a 3-year-old son with ex-girlfriend Amber Rose. She said, “He’s very kind, he’s very smart, he’s very talented, and he’s really funny,” before making sure to add, “And I think he’s quite handsome.”
During the interview, Clarkson pointed out the importance of humor in a relationship. She told her guest that it’s “hard enough just to live in this world” so “it’s nice to have love.”
As for why Cher typically goes after younger men, the musician, who admitted she’s had a couple of boyfriends who were “hovering” around her age, feels that her likelihood of dating would be decreased had she stuck with older men.
“If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would’ve never had a date because older men just didn’t like me all that much,” she explained. “Maybe younger men don’t care if you’re funny or outrageous and want to do stupid things and you have a strong personality. I’m not giving up my personality for anybody, OK?”
Cher and Edwards first met at Paris Fashion Week in September and were photographed holding hands shortly before she confirmed their relationship in a Twitter post where she wrote, “Love doesn’t know math.”
Celebrities such as Drew Barrymore have also come out to defend the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer’s age gap with her boyfriend. During her own daytime talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress said she bets “men Cher’s age are a snooze for her” and that she just wants the icon to “be happy and have fun.”
